A sailor from USS Shiloh (CG-67) has gone missing, as the guided-missile cruiser was operating in the Philippine Sea about 180 miles east of Okinawa.
Shiloh reported a man overboard at approximately 9:30 p.m. Japan Standard Time on Thursday, June 8. Searches began immediately, but the sailor was not located, according to a U.S. 7th Fleet news release issued late Friday.
Aircraft from Shiloh, USS McCampbell (DDG-85) and USS Ronald Reagan (CVN-76), along with a locally based P-8 Maritime Patrol Aircraft, are conducting an air search. Those ships, along with USS John S. McCain (DDG-56) and Japanese Coast Guard Ship Kudaka, are also conducting surface searches. Japan Maritime Self Defense Ship Ashigara, and Japan Coast Guard Ship Ryuku provided initial support but have since left the search area.
