MORGAN COUNTY, Mo. — Sixteen people were injured Friday afternoon in a boat explosion at Millstone Marina at Lake of the Ozarks. Fifteen of those injured were from St. Charles County, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.
Missouri State Highway Patrol Cpl. Kyle Green told NBC-affiliate KSHB that the explosion happened at around 4:30 p.m. Friday on a 35-foot Trojan boat. The engine compartment wasn't ventilated and fumes built up as the gas tank was being filled. A spark then set off the explosion.
Of the 16 injured, 15 were on the boat and one was on the dock. Some people were knocked off the boat into the water due to the force of the explosion, MSHP said.
Injuries ranged from minor to moderate.
An investigation is ongoing.
